You might think professors have it easy compared to say, preschool teachers. Or 1st grade teachers. Or seventh grade teachers. And while you might be right in some respects - professors don't usually have to wipe runny noses or teach kids to read or separate pairs of hormonal Tweens caught making out in middle school bathrooms - you'd be pretty far off base in others.
When I was in college I imagined my professors' days looked something like this: come in to the office around 10am, teach a class or two, pass homework assignments and exams off to graduate students to grade, have coffee with fellow professors, go home around 4pm. Professor-ing appeared to be a pretty good gig.
Now, 15 years later and older and wiser, I know better. I won't go into detail here (though if you're curious about what the road to becoming a professor and the life of a professor actually look like, please don't hesitate to ask me), but I will say that they deserve to be recognized this week as well.
