High Five for Friday (11.8.24)

I'll be honest - I wanted (and kind of still want) to scrap this week's HFFF post. I wrote all of it over the weekend and on Monday, when I had a *slightly* different vibe going, and now because of both this week's tension and the fact that I'm on my way to my grandma's funeral, I'm just not feeling very high five-y. But again (I feel like I've said this a lot this fall, so my apologies for sounding a bit like a broken record), that's the point. Find the good. Focus on the good. Be for the good.

One

At the beginning of March 2020, Tom and I went couch shopping. We didn't find exactly what we wanted, so we decided we'd look at a few different places the following weekend. Well, the following weekend was the weekend the world shut down for COVID, so we didn't continue our search...until now.

So now, four years later, we finally have a new couch. It looks incredibly similar to our old couch - I really like this deep gray/green as it's easy to coordinate with other colors and is incredibly forgiving in a house full of spillers and cats - but it has an updated profile and is also a hide-a-bed! I have such fond memories of watching movies and eating popcorn on our hide-a-bed growing up, and I can't wait to pull this one out for movie night sometime soon.

Two

Will, Hallie, and friends had a great time at HOCO. Well, Will and friends had a great time at HOCO. Hallie and friends had a great time getting ready, taking pics, and enjoying Starbucks before the dance and then hanging at our house after the dance. (They all said that this year the dance itself was far inferior to last year's dance.)

Will before...

...Will after.

Always and forever.

I'm not sure they could have coordinated better if
they'd tried. Probably my new favorite photo of them.

Three

Will played his first soccer game in more than two months! It felt so good for us to see him and for him to actually get back on the field. He was planning on "limited minutes," but the game was so unevenly matched that it made sense for Will to stay in the game since he wasn't actually working very hard. He felt good, even after taking a couple of light hits - hallelujah!

Four

We had a great Halloween at home with friends. Per usual, we enjoyed pizza and cupcakes before the dads took the kids trick-or-treating and the moms stayed back to man the candy cannon. (Midway through the evening the girls ditched their dads and continued trick-or-treating on their own while Cullen stayed back at the house and took over candy cannon duties.) We missed a couple of friends/families who usually join us, but still had a lot of fun.

Every year on Halloween the Lads and the Lady Tigers divide into
teams and play costumed scrimmages. Will is the yellow Care Bear.

Five

After coming in first at the Throwing Down the Gauntlet tournament this weekend, he's your SE Texas Regional Amateur Champion!

The trophy for winning this tournament was a sword he had to pull out of a stone after they announced his name. A fitting prize for a kid who's always loved swords... 😍

Six

A bonus high five for the end of Daylight Saving Time and the return to Standard Time, which I LOVE!

~

Happy weekend, friends!
